Radio Jingles!

Logic Pro

For our Radio Jingles we Used 'Logic Pro' which is an Audio work station. So first of we learnt the basics of using the programme and even how to begin a new project.
  • Select Empty project
  • Then choose if you want to create a mono, which is 1 track or Stereo, which is 2 tracks.
  • when finished click on link button and highlight the final product and select bounce, on the top bar, on the right.
  • Be sure to export to AIFF. Only export to MP3 for Blogging, uploading to internet or to send to something.
The three main parts of logic pro are Media browser, Mixer and Tracks. We also learnt that the ♪ button changes the time line. For example it can change beats to time depending on what is best for the project you are doing.

It was important that the volume does not go into the red zone when producing something. To help overcome this issue, click on the Automation button on the top bar, which can then, fade, increase, decrease sound. The black line is the volume of the track. Node = to move the sound.
When done with Automation, turn off by clicking the Automation button once again.

Then we had to research different jingles and see what they contained so we had a better understanding for when it came to producing a jingle ourselves.

Examples

BBC Suffolk

  • Vocals
  • Radio station
  • presenter
  • Happy music
  • Sound effects
We then went more in depth analysing a radio show jingle. The jingle i analysed was for 'Felixstowe Radio' and the jingle was advertising 'The classic rock show'. The Jingle was 42 seconds long and played around midday and also evenings as the radio show does not have much to offer. The audience seemed to be of the older generation as its music they would have grown up with and enjoyed. The radio jingle included instruments such as Kazoo's, acoustic guitar and a Bango, with a man's vocals over to create a classical tune. The jingle included the radio station, the type of music and the show, to inform the listeners. I thought this jingle was effective as it was a catchy jingle and gave the listeners of what the show was about.

Then we had to produce our own Radio Jingles in groups.

It had to:

  • Be 5-20 seconds long.
  • identify the presenter.
  • identify the station
  • have music, effects, vocals in.
Be descriptive!

when editing the Jingles, we had to be sure not to put two separate tracks on the same audio track. Also that when cutting parts of the audio, click on sissor icon on top bar and change smart to samples. this is because smart does not accurately cut the clip were you select it to.

Effects = Plug Ins

We then went on to downloading a song and adding different plug ins to it so we could get used to the programme.

After, we had to produce an advert to promote a new film or song. it had to contain our voices, a brief on the film and had to be 10 seconds long. i based mine on a new film called the runaways.

Script: 'Out now! The Runaways! Starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning!'
This meant we had to learn how to record from in built in microphone on the top of the Mac's, which we did by going to preferences, audio, input-record from built in microphone.

Lastly, we had to invent a product and make an 20 second long advert on it. I invented 'TuneVision' which was glasses with built in headphones.
